Hurontario

HISTORY

This neighbourhood takes its name from Hurontario the main arterial roadway that runs through this neighbourhood. This stretch of Hurontario was farmland until the present day neighbourhood was developed in the late 1980s. The last vestige of rural Hurontario can be seen at Britannia Schoolhouse and Farm, a 200-acre green space, bordered by Hurontario St., Bristol Rd., McLaughlin Rd. and Matheson Blvd., and owned in trust by the Peel District School Board for educational use. This site features an old farmhouse, time-weathered barn, a gentleman’s Georgian homestead and a historic schoolhouse.
