Romana Siddiqui was born and raised in Toronto to Pakistani Muslim immigrant parents. A graduate of the Ontario public education system, Romana completed her undergraduate degree in Political Science at York University, with a specialization Certificate in Refugee and Migration Studies. She was the sole proprietor of a corporate gift business, The Gift Factor and the recipient of the 2004 North York Chamber of Commerce Business of Excellence Awards, Entrepreneur of the Year. Her family relocated to Mississauga almost 30 years ago. As the oldest child of a multigenerational family, the wife of a healthcare worker, mother of three adolescent student-athletes, a community organizer, and public education advocate, Romana understands all too well the challenges of living, working and raising a family in Peel Region.
As a student and later as a parent, Romana has experience with 5 different public school boards - Toronto DSB, Limestone DSB, Thames Valley DSB, Peel DSB and Peel Dufferin Catholic DSB. Romana faced many obstacles navigating the public education system. She feels an obligation and responsibility to use her voice and privilege to advocate for transformation of and investment in public education to ensure the health, safety, well-being and success of all children, youth and families in our community. Romana has a proven track record of being an effective and powerful community advocate and public education champion. She has invaluable vision, knowledge and experience in navigating the education system to protect, defend and support children and youth.
On Monday, October 24th vote to elect Romana Siddiqui as your new trustee, Mississauga Ward 5. She will bring the same work ethic, passion and commitment for children, youth and families across Ward 5 as she has done throughout the school district and across the province.
